The Blackwater been at the top of the salmon rivers in Europe more often than once, and in the past the catch has exceeded even the Moy by up to 35%. Ballymaquirk Fishery offers fishers the opportunity to explore a very private section of this prolific river. Over the last number of years the fishery has been sympathetically developed to allow access to some excellent salmon and brown trout fishing. The banks are cleared twice a year to allow access for the fly fisherman along the full length of the fishery

The fishing comprises one kilometre of the Blackwater and half a kilometre of it's tributary, the Allow, both ideal for flyfishing. When the river is in spate fish can be taken throughout the beat. In addition to salmon and grilse, spirited wild brown trout can be found in abundance.

The beat accommodates three rods comfortably. Like all salmon fishing the quality of fishing depends on water conditions. It is advisable to bring light trout gear for when conditions are not right for salmon fishing as there is great fun (and breakfast) to be had in the brownies. We encourage flyfishing, however, there are some good pools suitable for worm/shrimp fishing, when the fly does not do the trick. Three rods should be capable of taking a respectable number of fish in a week, depending on water conditions and the time of year. The whole of the beat is easily accessable by foot from the lodge.
